PETALING JAYA: Former prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad is currently under self- quarantine following close contact with a member of Parliament who had tested positive for COVID-19.

It is believed that the 95-year-old MP for Langkawi had taken a picture with Bandar Kuching MP, Dr Kelvin Yii Lee Wuen, who is now under quarantine at the Sarawak General Hospital (SGH).

Dr Yii had had tested positive for COVID-19 on March 17 after coming into close contact with Sarikei MP, Andrew Wong Ling Biu, who tested positive on March 15.

TV3‘s Buletin Utama reported tonight that Dr Mahathir has spent a second day on self-quarantine at home.

In an interview with Buletin Utama, he said, “I will follow (self-quarantine). It is important in addressing this problem, to be disciplined.

“We must self-quarantine at home for 14 days. If we do that, there will be less possibility of the virus spreading to other people..

“So, now I am just at home. I cannot go out and I cannot meet people. I cannot shake hands, and others.

“However, Alhamdullilah, it is not so hard for me,” he added.

Dr Mahathir has also urged Malaysians to stay where they are and not use the movement control order as an opportunity to go back to their kampungs, which could help spread the disease to the villages.
